Brian Schneckenberger, MMEA Research Chair, Mary Ellen Cohn, MMEA Executive Director, Ron Frezzo.,, MMEA Advocacy Chair adn NAfME Staff member Ronny Lau in froni tof the U.S. Capitol after a long day of visiting and lobbying the offices of Maryland members of Congress, including Senators Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin and Representatives Donna Edwards, Steny Hoyer, Chris Van Hollin, and Andy Harris.  Our general presentation covered "thanks" to the senators for a GREAT bill that articulated "music and art" as core subjects for the first time EVER which opens the door for various types of funding and statistical reporting.  With the members of the House of Representatives we promoted our hope that the conference committee will keep the Senate language regarding core subjects and stressing the importance of arts - and of course specifically music - in the education of the whole child and how it can have particularly important impact on the education of disadvantaged students.
