The MMEA/BSO partnership was formed in 1999 with the express purpose of providing Teacher’s Guides for the BSO education concerts that were more closely aligned with classroom practices. This goal has been accomplished by identifying music educators experienced in writing curriculum and lesson plans. The writers are paid a stipend by the BSO.
In 2010, BSO Associate Director of Education Lisa Sheppley proposed that all lessons in future Teacher’s Guides be arts integration lessons. To assist in that effort, the Arts Education In Maryland Schools Alliance (AEMS) joined the partnership to identify classroom teachers experienced in arts integration. The 2011-12 Teacher’s Guides contain lessons for the music specialist as well as classroom teachers.
