Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Statement

MMEA Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Statement

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in music education is an essential element of our practice and preparation of teachers and students to interact with musicians worldwide and within a global context. Maryland Music Educators Association is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive community in which participants and members of all backgrounds can access events, programs, services, and be treated fairly.

As a result, MMEA is committed to:

  • Providing a welcoming, friendly environment for all participants.

  • Celebrating the creativity and unique strengths and talents of all constituents.

  • Ensuring outreach and integration of individuals who are underrepresented in music education.

  • Treating members, constituents, and students equitably.

  • Providing consistent, clear, bias-free, and transparent standards to the extent possible.

In principle and in compliance with state and federal law, MMEA does not practice harassment, discrimination, prejudice, or bias in admission, employment, volunteering, or administration of its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, political affiliation, ancestry, or military service.
